Weekend of 1000 Reviews: The White Stripes Cover
2007 has promise to be a great year in music. With highly anticipated releases from the likes of Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Wilco, and NIN just to name a few, you can rest assure there will be a plenty of music to envelop yourself in. But with all this music comes great artwork. Most will argue they don’t judge a book by its cover. Lets be honest, when you buy an album the first thing your body does with it’s senses is see the cover. Maybe you don’t let it influence your decision to purchase, but you can not deny the fact that the album cover is important. Most artists try to be creative, some mysterious, others just pick a color. But there is certainly thought put into it.
The White Stripes have been known to have peculiar covers. Their peppermint theme has always been solid on every cover, but the newer the album the more unusual the cover. From the bands third release White Blood Cells, their albums have been the topic of discussion for many fans. With every new album comes a more interesting cover. That is until the cover for their latest release, Icky Thump, was released on their website. I’m still making up my mind about it, but I want to know what you think. Do you like the Icky Thump Cover? Is Jack White able to do what ever he wants because of his accomplishments? Or is the black and white deck of cards look a little too bleak to be considered a White Stripes cover?
